Jimmy Smith

Jimmy Smith was an unconventional bowler, always bowling from the corner and never attempting to develop a hook or curve ball delivery. While unorthodox, he was also remarkably effective, as Smith finished his career with a stunning 205 average. His record in American Bowling Congress Tournaments wasn’t far off that mark, with two overall titles and a 196 average in the course of 243 games.

Also an exhibition bowler of some renown, Smith was named to the first team of Bowling Magazine’s Pre-1950 All-American squad.

Jimmy died on April 21, 1946. He was elected to the National Italian American Sports Hall of Fame in 2000.
