Former All-Star and Manager, Jim Fregosi, Passes Away at 71

Chicago, IL (February 17, 2014) – Over the weekend, the National Italian American Sports Hall of Fame learned of the passing of Jim Fregosi, a Class of 1999 Inductee. He was 71. He was a six-time All-Star and received the Golden Glove award in 1967. Following his playing career, Fregosi began his managerial career with the Angels, White Sox, Phillies, and Blue Jays.

In 1998, the Los Angeles Angels of Anaheim retired Fregosi’s No. 11 jersey as one of the club’s all time greats. The following year, he was inducted into the National Italian American Sports Hall of Fame. For the past 13 seasons, he has been a special assistant to the general manager for the Braves.

He is survived by his wife Joni and five children: Jim Jr., Jennifer, Nicole, Robert, and Lexi.
