A hard-hitting middle linebacker, Mike Lucci scrapped his way through 12 standout seasons in the National Football League

Prior to being drafted by the Cleveland Browns of the NFL, Mike Lucci excelled as a three-sport athlete at the University of Tennessee. He was selected in the fifth round of the 1965 draft by the Cleveland Browns.

After three seasons with the Browns, Lucci found a home with the Detroit Lions. From 1969-1971, he was named the team’s defensive MVP. He was also named to the 1971 NFL All-Pro team in 1971 after intercepting 5 passes, two that he returned for touchdowns.

Lucci was known for his ability to take the field and perform even when injured. He served as the Lions’ captain for six seasons, until his retirement at the end of the 1974 season.

This 6’3″, 230-pound middle linebacker was named to the National Italian American Sports Hall of Fame in 1995.
