Gino Torretta is the most celebrated football player in University of Miami history. He became only the second player in Hurricane history to win the Heisman Trophy.
In 1992, Torretta was named first-team All-American by the Associated Press, Kodak, Walter Camp, and the Football News. He also won the Johnny Unitas Golden Arm Award, The Maxwell Trophy, and the Davey O’Brien national quarterback award. He finished his Miami career with eleven school passing records, including career passing attempts, completions, yards, total offense, longest pass, and most passing yards in a game.
Torretta was inducted to the National Italian American Sports Hall of Fame in 2003.
